I am thrilled to be a part of a thoughtful and well curated exhibition titled 'Country' commemorating America’s 250th anniversary at the Attleboro Arts Museum.
'Country Living' is a creation based on a 21-year old Christmas card from my in-laws. The card was a staged self-portrait photograph depicting them sitting on a porch taking pleasure in a slow paced life in rural Maine. The message conveyed in the image is simple, poignant, and humorous. It's a celebration of their great access to nature, self-sufficiency and their sparse sense of community. I admire their light-hearted dry resolve approach to living. The image emphasizes a devotion to individualism, family, and patriotism without politics.

COUNTRY
The Attleboro Arts Museum’s 2026 National Juried Show
“Throughout 2026 the themes of the Attleboro Arts Museum’s exhibits and programs were designed to have a relationship to the US semiquincentennial (250th Anniversary). Our programming has emphasized and welcomed freedom of expression, reflection and identity – interpreted by participating artists, makers – and all creatives. Country is one of those programs.
In January 2026, the Attleboro Arts Museum posted a national call-for-artists requesting artwork that responded to the theme of Country. Artists were asked to submit work without restrictions on materials or size. The only requirement was to create visual art that tied to some aspect of the theme using their creative style.
The museum’s annual national juried show themes serve as springboards for artists. Creatives working in any art discipline are presented with a new inspirational prompt each year. Sample interpretations are always provided to get the artmaking process underway. The Country call-for-artists asked applicants based throughout the United States to consider portraying, for example, a countryside scene, an artist’s country of origin, a personal declaration of independence, country music icons, fireworks, founding mothers, other.
Responses from California to New Hampshire were digitally submitted for guest juror Claudia Fiks to review. Based on her evaluation of the submissions, close to 100 works will appear at the Attleboro Arts Museum.”
